It is undoubtedly true that the position of media or journalism is not that of a mission but of a commercial industry.

The truth of the matter, however, is that our present journalism is used to presenting only half side of the picture. This is the root cause of all our problems. In view of the present circumstances media activism would amount to present a balanced reporting of the situation abandoning the present policy of selective reporting.
The principle of modern journalism can be understood from this saying:"When a dog bites a man it is no news, but when a man bites a dog, it is news".

Media empowerment is a sign of true democracy, a medium to communicate with the youth and the entire world. Media definitely has a responsibility on its shoulders, which is to guide the people. People have blind faith in the media and they are convinced that what they hear or what the media has declared is correct. But have we ever deliberated over the fact that media can also be selfish? The truth is that in this competitive world – the media is also a victim.

  1. media, in todays world plays a very significant role and it does have huge rsponsibility,it has the power to make or break someone. but at the same time the viewer should understand that media too can be influenced or can be biased towards certain people or organisation that is why it projects some matters in a certain way and manipulates the minds of the public, for example, international media projects pakistan in a different manner it has been noticed alot of times that pakistani who live abraod when they visit pakistan they are surprised to see that the conditions here are soo peaceful, that is because the international media gives the impression that pakistan is under the state of war, therefore the viewers should not blindly believe whatever is been fed to them by the media.

  2. If some one comes to me and asks who is most vigourus and powerful individual,i will have undoubtedly single answer i.e any person related to Media.Media has the potential to change the entire mindset of individuals and brainwash them in such a way that people believe on what the media delivers. As far as pakistan is concerned it has gained so much power and independence but i have very serious issue with some channels. Some channels are reporting news that are very informative and conclusive but on moral and ethical sense they have zero value.A person sitting infrom of Prime house and chief minister house trying to suicide becasue of poverty and 6 to 7 children is tagged as a hero by media, but no one in media educates family pallnig benefits which can realy eradicate poverty. So media needs to be responsbile and moral instructive!

  3. Adding to the social responsibilities of the media, they are supposed to maintain etiquettes on television. They have a completely disproportionate idea of delivering news or conducting talk shows. From ridiculously rude comments to cutting each other in between and not letting the other person talk, what not has been done? It is shameful to see how our educated class is behaving.
Then the coverage of events is disturbingly disappointing. There are few things that cannot be shown, like live telecast of dead bodies after bomb blasts. Yes, everyone gets the idea of the devastation however, what about the privacy of the person you are broadcasting again and again? Who wants to see that? What thrill does it bring to anyone? Just to get few more viewers and get up the scale of the popularity, these channels are adopting ways which are far away from acceptable ethics.

  4. I agree to the concern raised above. The deep sentiments of the victims of bomb blasts need not to be shown to the public on TV. It disrupts their privacy and pretty much goes against their honor.

  5. Exactly Maryum! People who show up in the media, and on television in particular, need to be representative of our society.
