It is true that media is a source of entertainment for most. However, it should not be merely left in the hands of the glamorous world to take advantage from. Media gives us an excellent opportunity to spread awareness about various social and spiritual matters. The irony is that we are not as willing as we ought to be to benefit ourselves and the society around us from this opportunity.What can we as individuals and as a community do to take up this grand challenge?

I think the first thing we need to do is to convince people that media, and television in particular, is not merely a means of pass time. If we in this day and age have been blessed with such high-tech sources of mass communication, we need to realize that that no honor comes without a responsibility. I agree with you fully that media should be used for the spiritual advancement of the community in which we live. In my opinion, the first step would be to make people more open-minded about the way they perceive the "television box" and radio etc.
ReplyDeleteThere are some good and productive television channels as well - PeaceTV, Express 24/7, BBC News etc.
ReplyDeleteTaking up this responsibility is a big task. I'm not denying the fact that things need to be changed and tables need to be turned over, but we should be taking one step at a time. Writing articles and getting them published in the print media is much easier than launching TV programmes. My suggestion to all of you out there is to start writing to newspapers and magazines. We are the blessed minority of our community who have had access to quality education. It is about time we start putting in effort to benefit our community as well as mankind in general.

ReplyDeleteKeeping in view the political situation of our country, our responsibility has actually increased. Before we can start spreading awareness and understanding among the Pakistani community for any kind of improvement, we need to remove the misconceptions people are having that are leading to violence and terrorist activities.

ReplyDeleteWe do have a lot of determination indeed. And we need to direct it towards those people who are responsible for the tragedies taking place in our homeland. There is not much point in accusing our politicians at all times.
ReplyDeleteAfter the bomb blast at International Islamic University in Islamabad, there was an uprising among students. But these students first need to be educated about the situation behind the scenes in such matters before they merely rise against the ones in authority.
